FEED THE POOR
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) conveyed a profound message about the virtue of providing iftar to those who fast, stating that the reward for such an act is equal to the one fasting, without diminishing the latter's reward in the slightest (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi). Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah elucidated that offering iftar entails providing enough sustenance to satisfy the individual (Al-Ikhtiyarat).
The pious predecessors (salaf) exemplified this virtue by eagerly providing food to others, considering it among the noblest of deeds. One of them expressed that hosting ten companions for a meal they enjoyed was more beloved than emancipating ten slaves. Many among them, including 'Abd-Allah ibn 'Umar, Dawud al-Tai, Malik ibn Dinar, and Ahmad ibn Hanbal, sacrificed their own iftar for the sake of others, sharing their meals with orphans and the needy.
Some of the salaf went further by serving food to their fasting brethren, exemplified by the actions of al-Hasan and Ibn al-Mubarak. There were communities, such as the Banu 'Adiyy tribe, where individuals would not break their fast alone, inviting others to join them for iftar, or taking their meals to the mosque to share with fellow worshippers.
The act of providing food extends beyond mere sustenance; it cultivates love and friendship among people, a quality essential for attaining Paradise, as the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) emphasized the importance of genuine mutual affection among believers (Narrated by Muslim).
Moreover, it fosters companionship with the righteous, offering opportunities to support them in their worship, thereby accruing spiritual rewards. This Ramadan, join hands with HCR on the Ground to continue the legacy of feeding the fasting in Pakistan, Gaza, Yemen, Syria, and Africa. Your donations to the Ramadan Food Appeal will provide essential sustenance to our brothers and sisters in need.
Let's make this Ramadan a season of generosity and compassion, embodying the spirit of unity and solidarity within the global Muslim community. Donate today to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
