Water Appeal
Amid the rising population and climate change, the availability of fresh water is becoming worrisome in South Asia, particular Pakistan, which is on its way to become the most water stressed country in the region by 2040. According to a recent report by the International Monetary Fund, Pakistan ranks third in the world among countries facing acute water shortage. Reports by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) AND THE Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) also warn the authorities that the South Asian Country will reach absolute water scarcity by 2025. The water crisis has been made worse by a growth in population and climate change.
With the current shortage of water there has been an increase in waterborne diseases such as typhoid, giardiasis, intestinal worms and gastroenteritis in Pakistan. Infant deaths caused by water-related diarrhoea are 60% according to the International Union on Conservation of Nature (highest ratio in Asia).
Over the last 5 years Sadaqah Foundation has been working on the installation of water pumps through Pakistan. We have installed over 3500 Hand Water Pumps (£90) in Multan and over 40 Solar Powered Water Pumps (£1500) in Sindh. Please support us in our mission in helping those in need.
Business Start-Up Appeal
A staggering 21.9% of the population is currently living below the poverty line according to the Household Integrated Economic Survey.
The number of people living below the poverty line currently stands at over 45 million.
Children and families living and growing up in poverty and low-income households experience many disadvantages which include, poorer health and wellbeing, health inequalities, lower educational standards
The Covid-19 pandemic hit the poor, elderly, and ethnic minorities harder than anyone. Greater deaths were recorded amongst these groups with its economic effect is also unevenly distributed across the population.
Over the last two years Sadaqah Foundation has been working on a number of Business (Rozgar) Start-Up initiatives to help individuals earn sustainable and consistent income to support their families. These initiatives include fruit carts (£150) which are paid for in full and stocked on initial deployment and more recently we have introduced a rikshaw/tuk-tuk (£950) to the initiative.
Orphan Appeal
A United Nations survey revealed that Pakistan is home to some 4.6 million orphan children out of, which most of the population is aged below 17 years.
War, disease, poverty, natural disasters, abandonment, and accidents are amongst some of the leading causes for the large orphan population in Pakistan.
Education is one of the greatest gifts that can be given to an orphan due to the countless opportunities that can be unlocked as well as being the key to ending generational poverty. Surprisingly, out of all children in Pakistan aged between 5-16 around a third (22 million) are currently out of school.
Sadaqah Foundation began sponsoring Orphans in Azad Kashmir in 2017. We currently sponsor over 300 children through their education covering costs of school fees, study material, uniforms and providing a daily spending allowance.
Two of our sponsored children are now continuing into further education at University studying to become an Engineer and Teacher, respectively. These costs will also be covered by our organisation. The cost of sponsoring an orphan is £354 a year (£29 a month/£0.90 a day). Supporting an orphan should be a social and moral obligation for us. Please support us in this.
